Sault Ste. Marie is located on US-2 and I-75 in Chippewa County. Little Falls of St. Mary’s. Originally named “Le Sault de Sainte” by Father Marquette, the name was shorted to Sault Ste. Marie by Henry Rowe Schoolcraft, the first postmaster and historian. Oldest city in Michigan and third oldest in the United States. Chippewa County seat.
