 Drummond Island is located in Chippewa County. Named by the British who held the island through old Fort Drummond until 1828. Ferry service is available to the island from De Tour Village. Drummond Island, wedged between Lake Huron and Lake Superior just 11/2 kilometres across the St. Mary's River from DeTour Village, is a great place to get back to nature and enjoy hunting, fishing and bird-watching, Photographers and nature enthusiasts will discover a rare mosaic of plants, birds and butterflies on the Maxton Plains, a protected geological area and the alvar grasslands region. The Heritage Trail in Drummond Island Township Park is ideal for watching eagles, osprey, owls, hawks and 200 varieties of songbirds. Woodland Indians occupied Drummond Island before it became a British outpost in 1814. Named after British commander Sir Gordon Drummond. Today, golfers tee off at The Rock, an 18-hole course, or at the nine-hole Drummond Island Golf Course. Trophy fishermen compete in the Tag Perch Contest in May and the Annual Salmon Derby in August. With year-round ferry and air service, Drummond Island attracts winter tourists who snowmobile on 160 kilometres of groomed trails and across the International Ice Bridge to Canada.

DeTour Reef Light, PO Box 307, Drummond Island, MI 49726, Phone: (906) 493-6609. Located in northern Lake Huron, this active aid to navigation is one mile offshore at the far eastern end of Michigan's Upper Peninsula between DeTour Village and Drummond Island. It is the only crib based Light to offer tours. The narrated tours are limited to six persons per tour, assuring a personalized and thorough inspection of this fascinating lighthouse. LIGHTHOUSE TOURS - Treat yourself, your family or friends and enjoy a 15 minute ride on a licensed charter boat from Drummond Island to the historic DeTour Reef Light for a memorable two hour, guided, narrated, educational and entertaining tour of the lighthouse. Learn and appreciate what it was like to be a keeper on this still active (but automated) Great Lakes' lighthouse. Climb the circular stairway to the top of the tower and view passing freighters through the 1861 lantern that was originally located on DeTour Point. LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER PROGRAM - Exciting opportunities for lighthouse enthusiasts offered where keepers are in residence at the lighthouse from Friday evening through Sunday evening. Assist with light maintenance and tour visitors. Keepers provide their own linens and meals. Four keepers are in residence. A keeper application can be downloaded from www.DRLPS.com.
