Mushing behind a team of dogs is growing sport here in Northern Michigan. Many winter festivals feature sled dog races with large crowds lining up to watch the events. The U.P. 200 Sled Dog Championship held in Marquette has generated people’s interest in handling, feeding and driving their own teams. Mushing is no longer just a spectator sport, rent a team and enjoy the trill of an eager six-to ten-dog team pulling you down the trails that lead trough snow-carpeted forest and frozen lakes.
