Captain Neil Blaney was commodore of the lake fleet of the William Mueller Company, of Chicago, for it, he located and acquired a tract of timberland on which the company set up logging headquarters, with cottages, stores, post office, etc., in 1902, and named it Blaney. Charles E. Ebert became its first postmaster on December 5, 1902. The venture failed and the entire property was sold in 1909 to the Wisconsin Land & Mining Company, of which G. Harold Earle was president. Logging continued until 1927 when Mr. Earle began to convert the town into a resort operation named Blaney Park. On February 1, 1936, its post office was also named Blaney Park. Informational excerpts from Michigan Place Names, by Walter Romig, L.H.D.
